The tools
I use a Canon R6 with a 70–200mm lens, and an RX1 for group photos, flash, and more. The aim is to capture great shots without interrupting what’s happening.
ABOUT / JESSE DANIEL SMITH
15 years behind the camera. Still watching what happens.

I’ve been doing this for 15 years. It’s been funny going from basically a kid to being older than most of my couples. I finally get offered finger food.
I’m Jesse, a wedding and event photographer, filmmaker, and musician based in Montréal. I let the camera do the work, using the best technology from every era. Modern digital and Super 8, chosen for the moment.
I specialize in getting traditional photographs without posing. I’m always shooting, even when we’re moving from place to place, chatting, or seem to be just about to get started.

I was born in Montréal, with stretches of living and working in Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary. I’ve been flown all over the world to photograph weddings, which is funny, because I’m such a homebody.
After many years of not feeling like I belonged here, I’m over the moon to be back home in Montréal.

Tell me about the people, the place, and the moments you don’t want to miss. We’ll decide on the hours and coverage together, with room for the day to unfold.
I photograph what’s naturally happening, without posing or intervening. Weddings and events are the focus: the people, the in-between moments, and the hours you want to remember. For photo and video together, I bring a shooting partner.
Photographing a wedding feels like a live show that lasts twelve hours. There’s no second take, and afterwards I’m responsible for some very precious cargo. External drives, RAID storage, cloud backups: a lot of what you’re paying for is the care and systems behind keeping those photographs safe.
Also, I have an absolutely killer eye.
The edit, formats and delivery are part of the plan we agree on before booking.
7-77. Seven seventy-seven. Lucky sevens. Hey Lover remains its own wedding business.
Wedding & event ratesCorey and Elena are the two shooters I work with.

My high-school drummer, and still my drummer today. A DOJO Games co-founder and a Swiss army knife behind the camera.

The only photographer I’ve ever met who’s as good as me. (Also my beautiful wife and partner of 10 years.) We both shoot photographs and video.
TWO PEOPLE / ONE TEAM
My shooting partner is my wife. We both shoot photographs and video, and we’ve standardized on Canon R6 cameras so we can move between the two without changing the way we work.
The preparations often happen at the same time in different places. We can split up, so neither side has to wait for the camera. Photo coverage can be one or two people, depending on what the day needs. Photo + video is the two of us.
If having a woman photographer for part of the day would make you more comfortable, including for religious or cultural reasons, tell me. We can talk through that together when we plan the coverage.
I’ve been doing this for 15 years to fund a music career. Weddings and events, seen from my own slightly sideways point of view.
Let’s start with an email. A date, a place, and a little about you and your event, how I can help you. A few sentences is plenty to get going.
