MY GEAR / A FEW PERSONAL FAVOURITES
Photo, film & sound / My gearThe tools I
keep close.
I like equipment that lets me pay attention to people. A small camera, a long lens, a discreet microphone. Each has its place, and each helps me stay out of the way.
It took me twenty years to realize: it really is all light.
Beautiful photographs aren’t new. What’s changed is how much easier the technical part has become. I get to spend that energy elsewhere: watching people, noticing light, and being ready.
01 / THE LITTLE CAMERA
Sony RX1
My little Porsche.
I came across this one in a camera shop, found a bargain, and fell in love. It’s the most premium, most expensive camera I’ve owned, and it’s still a little camera with real limitations.
It’s my personal favourite point-and-shoot. I use it for group photos, flash, and the moments when a smaller camera feels right. I don’t need it to do everything.
02 / A LITTLE DISTANCE
Canon R6 + 70–200mm
Close to the moment. A little farther from the people.
My wife and I settled on the same system for the colour, the quality of the lenses, and the flexibility to shoot both photographs and video. Familiar tools leave more attention for what’s happening in front of us.
The long lens is a bit like photographing sports, racing, or wildlife: you can stay back and still see the moment clearly. At a wedding, that means I can photograph a conversation without becoming part of it.
03 / THE JAMES BOND SOLUTION
DJI audio
Small enough to forget about.
A tiny magnetic microphone is my James Bond solution to recording sound. It stays discreet, so the words can matter more than the equipment.
I use internal 32-bit recording alongside an external recording. It gives me another recording to work with, without turning the moment into a production.
04 / ACTUAL FILM
Super 8
A little piece of the day, on film.
Super 8 is physical film. I use it alongside digital when that texture belongs in the story. The grain comes from the film itself, rather than a filter added afterward.
One cartridge keeps it simple. The Super 8 add-on includes shooting, processing, scanning, and editing. The booking details are on the rates page.
